November 26, 1930 - February 4, 2021
Alan Dean Boggs, 90, husband of the late Betty Wiggins Boggs, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at North Greenville Hospital. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Boggs was the son of the late Homer R. Boggs and Betty Kelly Boggs. He was a 1953 graduate of Clemson University and later worked as a county agent for Oconee County. Mr. Boggs was a member of the Walhalla Lions Club and Walhalla First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, trustee, moderator and Sunday school teacher. Dean loved the Lord, his family (being especially proud of his grandson Tyler), his church and his numerous friends, whose number is untold because Dean never met a stranger. He was a farmer who loved the land and watching things grow. He was forever planting or pruning something. Despite traveling extensively after retirement, Dean was never happier than when he was at his farm at Keowee; whether riding his tractor or gator or simply having a picnic under the pecan tree. Dean loved a good ‘mater sandwich. Mr. Boggs is survived by son: James Alan Boggs (Cindy) of Greenville; grandson: Tyler Alan Boggs (Alyssa Laven); nieces: Betty Ann Boggs, Carol Lane, Marlene Petree and Jane Ratlif. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Boggs was preceded in death by his brothers: Roy and Carl Boggs; and sister: Nell Carpenter. Family and friends may come by Davenport Funeral Home, between 12:00 – 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 6, 2021, to pay their respects. A private graveside service will be held at a later date for the immediate family. The family would like to thank the staff at The Springs Assisted Living in Simpsonville, U.S. Renal Care- Holly Tree and S.E. Transport for the compassionate care and service provided to Dean over the last few years. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Walhalla First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 589, Walhalla, SC 29691, New Hope Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8212, Seneca, SC 29678 or to a charity of one’s choice. The family is at their respective homes.
