Ms. Verdie Howard

November 30, 1931 - December 27, 2020

Verdie Howard passed away peacefully in her home on December 27th, 2020. She was eager to join her heavenly father. Verdie loved the Lord and she loved her family with everything that she had in her. Verdie was born and raised in Charleston, SC. Born on November 30th, 1931 to Wade Hampton Howard and Janie Crosby. Verdie started her first job at the age of 12 years old at an Ice Cream Parlor on Wentworth St. This is where she met her first husband, William Prine, who preceded her in death. Verdie was also preceded in death by her parents, her late husband William Rast, her oldest son Thomas Chapman, Sr., her step-children Wayne and Sabrina Rast. Surviving are her 4 children: Sonera and her husband Larry Harbert, Greer Harris, Chan and her husband Ralph Gooding, and Corvin Prine. She had 9 grandchildren, which were all her precious heart strings. Tyrone Harbert, Sylvia Harris, Cameo Harris Dovinchin and her husband Bill, Kandi Mangual and her husband Felix, Susan Haines, Billy Clark, Jovan Clamp, Thomas Chapman, and Robert Chapman. 17 great grandchildren: Jacob, Rebecca, and Aaron Harbert, Michael and Brooke Dovinchin, Jared Grogan, George Nobles, Jr. and his wife Caitlyn, Amanda Branum, Pamela Swartz and her husband JT, Tony Bower, Jr., Cassie and Hannah Haines, Jessica, Joey and his wife Haley, and Britney Clark, Maia and Madison Chapman. 5 great-great grandchildren Carson Lee Branum, Eli Charleston Surrett, Kylah and RJ Palmer, and Journi Richardson. Due to Covid-19 and the fact that Grandmomma did not want any fussing over her, the family will have a memorial service dedicated to her later next year. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to The Alzheimer’s Association. https://act.alz.org/site/Donation.
