Mrs. Claudene Massey Monteith

Claudene Massey Monteith passed away peacefully on August 24, 2015, at her home in West Union after a long illness. Born in Anderson, SC on September 5, 1937, Claudene was a daughter of the late Ida Mae and James Price Massey of Walhalla. She was a graduate of Starr High School and Anderson College. For most of her career, she worked for Conalco Contract Carriers in Jackson, TN as the HR and Compliance Manager. Upon retirement, she relocated back to her home in SC and worked as the owner of a long haul trucking agency and Massey Tax Service along with her late husband. She enjoyed cooking and crafts and used her gifts in the community to serve others compassionately. Claudene was a true lady who dearly loved her family and took pride in creating a beautiful and loving environment for them. She had the gift of hospitality and enjoyed entertaining with her friends as well as working in her many church activities with Chicopee United Methodist Church. She was also an enthusiastic Clemson football fan. Remaining to cherish memories of their mother and Nanny are daughters; Donna Monteith Fisher and her husband George Fisher of Dyer, TN and Debbie Monteith Jackson and husband Mike Jackson of Mooresville, NC; and her three beloved grandchildren, Nichol Fisher Mathis and her husband Chad Mathis of Trenton, TN, Jonathan Fisher of Memphis, TN, and Caitlyn Fisher Stokes and her husband James Stokes of Seneca, SC; and three beautiful great-grandchildren Leonidas Stokes, Case Mathis, and Theseus Stokes. Claudene was predeceased by her husband, Mack H. Monteith and her two brothers and 3 sisters and their spouses. Her family wishes to express their deepest appreciation and love to the multitude of friends, Church family from Chicopee United Methodist Church and to Hospice for their genuine love and support during the past few months. It has been that love and support that has sustained us. A service to celebrate Claudene’s life will be held on August 26, 2015 at 11:00 AM, at Chicopee United Methodist Church in Walhalla. A reception and receiving of friends will immediately follow the service in the church's Fellowship Hall. Davenport Funeral Home will be assisting the family and internment will be at 2:00 PM, at Oconee Memorial Park. Memorials to be given to Chicopee United Methodist Church Building Fund at PO Box 87, Walhalla, SC 29691.
