Dorothy Pelfrey Thrift

Dorothy Helen Pelfrey Thrift, 73, of Ellaville, Georgia has answered the call to God. She passed away May 11, 2011. She was born to the late Lawrence Eldridge and Lassie Lee (Ramey) Pelfrey on Dec 29, 1937 in Walhalla, South Carolina, where she later married Franklin Delano Thrift, Sr. Dorothy completed her high school studies in Waiwai, Hawaii and later attended Chattahoochee Technical, studying retail management. As an army-wife, she and Frank lived and traveled together in Colorado, Hawaii, Georgia, Kansas, and South Carolina before finally settling in Georgia. Dorothy was passionate about her family, was actively involved in every person’s life, and was looking forward to the births of her two additional great grand-daughters, Aubrey Farmer and Peyton Wosyk. She loved to travel and garden. Her favorite pastime was watching the hundreds of wild hummingbirds she fed and cared for daily. Another angel has been called home. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by one son; Timothy Thrift, and three brothers; Hubert Pelfrey, Lee Doyle Pelfrey and Rufus Pelfrey; and sisters-in-law, Sarah Pelfrey, Irene Pelfrey, Connie Pelfrey, Hassie Pelfrey, and Helen Pelfrey. Dorothy is survived by ten brothers; Ralph Pelfrey, Johnny Pelfrey, Seaborn Pelfrey, James Pelfrey, Hershell (Becky) Pelfrey, Furman (Martha) Pelfrey, Richard (Charlie-Trish) Pelfrey, Andy Pelfrey, Lloyd (Kim) Pelfrey and Daniel (Belinda) Pelfrey along with numerous, nieces, nephews and extended family. Dorothy is also survived by her husband and soul mate, Franklin Delano Thrift Sr., also of Ellaville, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Bryan Richardson of Concord, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law Patsy and Joseph Kirkland of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter Lorine Rhodes of Ellaville, Georgia, daughter and son-in-law Linda and Wayne Sayah of Lakewood, Washington; son and daughter-in-law Franklin Delano II and Connie Thrift of Lawrenceville, Georgia; special family member, Brad Goodman of Douglasville, Georgia; grandchildren Barbara Richardson, Christina Richardson, Eddie Strickland, Krystelle Wosyk, Joseph Kirkland II, Christie Rae Coker, Brittany Farmer,Tiffany Thrift, Franklin Delano Thrift III, , and Jessie Thrift, and great grandchildren, Jacob Kane, Cipriano Villarreal, Katlyn Braun, Joseph Kirkland III, Zoey Wosyk, and Haileigh Farmer. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2011, from the Chapel of Davenport Funeral Home, Walhalla, SC, with burial to follow in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2011, at the funeral home. The family is at their respective homes.
