Mrs. Evelyn Addis Williams

On March 6th, 2023, Evelyn Addis Williams peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 87. Evelyn, "Memama" as she was known to many, lived a long faithful life of benevolence and service to her family, friends, and anyone who made her acquaintance. Memama had a way of making everyone feel welcome in her home. She often showed love through acts of service, especially her cooking. If you were ever so blessed to be handed a plate of pancakes across her kitchen counter, you could testify to her love. She would "make a pan of biscuits" for you any time of the day or night. She just made people feel at ease, which came directly from her faith in Jesus and her genuine love for people. Evelyn was a lifelong native of Oconee County, growing up in the Keowee community and living in Walhalla, SC, for most of her adult life. She was the daughter of the late George H Addis and Fanny Johnson Addis and sister to the late Norma Gibby. She was a retired supervisor with Sangamo, currently the Itron facility in West Union. Evelyn was an active member of Rocky Knoll Baptist Church. She served in many roles in the church body. She spent many years with the children's ministry and later in life was a tireless leader of the Bereavement team and the "Jolly Seniors." Evelyn was the wife of the late George Lester Williams, who predeceased her in 2006 after 49 years of marriage. She is survived by her son; Keith Williams of Seneca, SC; daughter: Janet Cartee of Greenville, SC; and son: Tim Williams (wife Michelle) of Charlotte, NC. She had seven grandchildren: April, Kevin, Mariah, Adam, Hillary, Abby, and Emily Beth. In addition, she had six great-grandchildren: CJ, Dylan, Leland, Lyra, Loki, and Leif; plus one great great grandchild Elizabeth. Funeral services for Evelyn will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 11th, from the chapel of Davenport Funeral Home, Walhalla, SC, with burial in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends starting at 11:00 AM before the service. Memorials are preferred instead of flowers. George and Evelyn gave gracefully to a special family in their life.
