Mrs. Grace Nichols Powell

Grace Louise Nichols Powell of West Union, moved to her heavenly home on November 19, 2015. She was born in the Cheohee Valley Community on January 30, 1921, and was the daughter of the late Joe and Josie Nichols. She married L. J. Powell in 1946 and began a wonderful marriage of more than 58 years, until L. J. left for heaven in 2005. They are now reunited again. Grace was passionate in her love for others. As a wife, she and L. J. were known as a team. In service at Welcome Wesleyan Church, as owners of Powell’s Country Junction, and in real estate at Powell Real Estate, they were always together. Celebrated as founders and advisors of Tribble Activity Center for more than 40 years, caring for Brent, her special son with Downs Syndrome, remained a central focus of her life until the end. In addition to Brent, Grace is survived by her sons and their wives: John and Joyce Powell of West Union, Keith and Deborah Powell of Greenville; seven grandchildren: Joy and husband Bryan Duncan, Mark and wife Denise Powell, James and wife Stacie Powell, Cliff Powell, Erika Powell, Adam and wife Elizabeth Ann Powell, Emily and husband Andrew Merritt; six great-grandchildren: Nate, Henry, and Luke Duncan, Silas and Merritt Powell, and Marlowe Powell. Grace is the last surviving of 8 children. She is predeceased by brothers: Arthur, Fred, Floyd, and Clarence Nichols; and by sisters: Pearl Long, Ina Owens, and Ollie Sloan. The family wishes to thank the caregivers and wonderful family members who have so lovingly given care and support over recent years. Grace has lived and loved well. Her example has taught her family and many friends the power of prayer, the meaning of true unconditional love, the value of strong faith, and reverence of God and His word. She has shared the gospel message of salvation in Jesus Christ and she consistently has encouraged her family, above all, to live their lives for the Lord. “Granny’s” greatest desire was to see all her family in heaven together again one day. A memorial service celebrating Grace’s life will be held at 2:00PM, Monday, November 23, 2015, at Welcome Wesleyan Church in Seneca, with burial to follow at Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00PM, Sunday, November 22, 2015, at Davenport Funeral Home in West Union. The family is at the home.
