Mr. Ralph Edward Lusk

Ralph Edward Lusk, WW ll veteran & lifelong resident of Salem & native of Oconee County, passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the age of 101. The second child born to Gillard & Emily Lusk, was a member of the greatest generation ever to be born of the American people. A generation who was shaped by the Great Depression and were the primary generation composing the enlisted forces in World War II. The events of this era were central to forming & shaping the world we lived in, and in providing the lessons we learned to carry us through life. It has been said that this was a generation of towering achievement and modest demeanor, a legacy of their formative years when they were participants in and witness to sacrifices of the highest order.…This is the greatest generation any society has produced. After serving his country, Mr. Lusk went on to join the American workforce to provide for his wife of 73 years & children by serving in the textile industry where he retired after 37 + years of service. His work ethic was highly respected & it is a trait that he passed on to his children. After retiring he enjoyed spending time with his family along with gardening & taking trips in his 1968 Chevelle Malibu to the Great Smokey Mountains & Cades Cove, but mostly he enjoyed just being home. Mr. Lusk leaves a legacy of a simple, humble man who lived the country life strongly rooted in faith & family. He leaves behind three daughters: Diane Whitmire (Tim) of Tamassee SC, Sherrie McJunkin (Mark) of Westminster SC and Sandra McCurry (Troy) of West Union SC. He is also survived by five grandsons: Ben Whitmire, Brock Lusk, Travis McCurry, Scott McCurry and Taylor Lusk; and eight great grandchildren: Aeryn Whitmire, William Whitmire, Annabelle Lusk, Harrison Lusk, Tyler McCurry, Adeline McCurry, SJ McCurry and Magnolia McCurry. He was preceded in death by his wife: Frances Johnson Lusk; and both sons: Randall Edward and Wendell Hugh Lusk. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 12, 2025 at Davenport Funeral Home with burial to follow at Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM, on Friday, December 12, 2025, prior to the service at Davenport Funeral Home. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made in his honor to benefit the residence of Richard M. Campbells Veteran Hospital with cotton quilts, link to be updated soon.
