Robert Newmark

Robert Newmark, 80, of 123 Starboard Tack Drive, Salem, SC, husband of Linda Sims Newmark, died Sunday, December 18, 2011 at his residence. A native of Vienna, Austria, he was the son of the late Karl and Amelia Berdick Neumark. He had several hobbies; fishing, golfing, traveling, sports, and loved playing card and board games. He had a love for animals. He enjoyed riding and broke wild horses at ranches in Colorado and always had many dogs, cats, and birds as pets. Mr. Newmark lettered in four sports in high school and went on to play Navy Football. Bob was a dedicated career man. He started his career at Honeywell in Aneheim, CA and over twenty plus years, worked his way up the ladder to the Board of Vice Presidents. He was recognized for his success and was recruited to join the Board of Vice Presidents of Emerson Electric in St. Louis, MO. He was the President of Cubic, in San Diego, CA and went on to become the President and CEO of Contraves Goertz in Pittsburgh, PA, a military defense systems company. He was very well respected and many employees followed him during his career as he moved from company to company. He was always considered a man of integrity, high moral standards, and an outstanding leader with great vision. After a brilliant career, he retired and settled in Keowee Key to enjoy the beauty and serenity of its surroundings and ultimately gave back to the community by offering his leadership skills as President of the Keowee Key Property Owners Association. Family was very important to Mr. Newmark. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Carl Newmark of Denver, CO; daughters, Linda Gellis of Charlotte, VT, Laura Pearce of Greer, SC; two step-children, Rob and Anna; six grandchildren, David, Chad, Brett, Amanda, Abby, and Carly; and six step-grandchildren, Shelby, Charles, James, Will, Mary Grace and Belle. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn Hedford Newmark. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Oconee Memorial Park, Seneca, SC. The family will receive friends at their home Tuesday, December 20, 2011 immediately following the service.
