Frank Palmer

JAMES FRANK PALMER, JR. Walhalla, SC—James Frank Palmer, Jr., 90, of 153 Palmer Road, Walhalla, died Monday, December 03, 2007 at the Vitas Hospice Care Unit in Houston, TX. He was born in Abbeville, SC on August 12, 1917 to James Frank Palmer, Sr. and Alice Brown Robison Palmer. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edna Dunn Palmer; and his two sons, James Francis Palmer III and wife, Shirley, of Springfield, GA, and Richard Michael Palmer and wife, Sherry, of Kingwood, TX. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Tonya Palmer Ward and husband, Chance; Jincy Palmer Hinely and husband, Jason, all of Springfield, GA; and Richard Allan Palmer of Crosby, TX and Julia Ann Palmer of Kingwood, TX. Mr. Palmer also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Kiley Brianne Ward, Sarah-Lyn Ward, Brennan Wesley-Palmer Ward, and Jace Thomas Hinely. He is also survived by his two brothers, Thomas Andrew (Andy) Palmer and his wife, Bruce, of Jacksonville, FL, Dr. Robert Marion Palmer and his wife, Alice, of Tryon, NC, and his sister, Annie Hannah, of Due West, SC. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends to mourn his death. He was very active in his church, Rocky Knoll Baptist Church, of which he was a member, former deacon, and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the CCC’s and a World War II veteran serving with the US Army Air Force. He was retired from the US Forest Service after 30 years of service. He was a member of Walhalla Lion’s Club, Oconee Beekeeper’s Association, Cattleman’s Association, and a former Red Cross First Aid instructor for many years. Frank and Edna were both known throughout the Walhalla community for their fruit, honey, pecans, and fresh vegetables. Funeral services will be held at Rocky Knoll Baptist Church in Walhalla on Saturday, December 8, 2007, at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow in Oconee Memorial Park, Seneca. Visitation will be held Friday, December 7, 2007, at Davenport Funeral Home in Walhalla from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.
