Mrs. Jane McDonald Stroupe

Born in Caldwell County, NC, on November 1, 1953, she was the only child of the late L. Wayne McDonald and Ruth Queen McDonald and loving wife of Mark. She was a graduate of Caldwell Community College and Queens University (MBA-1996). She enjoyed a 42-year career in the propane industry starting as a part time clerk with Piedmont Natural Gas Propane division in Lenoir, NC. She rose to President of Piedmont Propane in 2000. As President, she was instrumental in the successful merger of US Propane and Heritage Propane, where she continued her career as Regional Vice President. 2012 brought the merger of Heritage Propane and AmeriGas where she became an Area Director and Regional Special Projects Coordinator for the South East. During her career, she served as South Carolina Propane Gas Association District Director, chaired the SCPGA Finance, Convention, Nominating and Scholarship Committees, was a member of the SC Propane Education and Research Foundation Board of Directors and served as Treasurer for 9 years. In 2010 Jane was elected as the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) State Director from SC and was a member of the NPGA Board. In 2013, she was elected as the NPGA District Director for the South East. Jane served as the Chair of NPGA’s Workforce Development Committee and participated in the Women in Propane Council. Known for a mentoring leadership style she believed in putting people first. In her personal life she loved to travel, design jewelry and play golf, she considered walking 36 holes at both Shoal Creek CC and Pebble Beach among her proudest accomplishments. An avid sport car enthusiast she loved piloting her red Porsche 911 on the curvy roads around Highlands and Cashiers, NC. Although Jane’s battle with cancer took its toll on her physically, you would have never known it by her actions and demeanor. Throughout her illness she continued to work and maintain a strong spirit. She often astonished her oncologist when he would call to discuss her illness/treatment to find that she had stepped out of an out of town meeting or convention to take his call. She was an inspiration for all that knew her and will be remembered for her down to earth kind and gentle nature. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Clemson United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life Oconee, 154 Millstone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
