Mr. John Regil Berkheiser

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Regil Berkheiser, September 5, 2026, of Keowee Key, Salem, South Carolina. Beloved husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully at the Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, from complications of Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia. John was born on February 3, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late Richard John Berkheiser and Helen Marie Berkheiser. John proudly served his country in the United State Air Force during the Vietnam War and enlisted in 1964 and served four years. John is survived by his loving wife of over forty years, Barbara A. Berkheiser; two daughters: Jenine M. Silen (Dave) and Catherine M. Finn (Jim); step-son: David E. Warren (Lorraine); four sisters: Joanne M. Siebert, Sue Rugieri, Judith Goodnow (Don), and Miriam A. Belzer (Bruce); brother: Richard Berkeiser (Kathy); daughter-in-law: Joanna Warren; brother in law to Charles and Bambi Wilson, and Thomas Venezia (Jeanne); and was loving grandfather to nine grandchildren: Parker Klingbeil, Avery Silen, June Silen, Melody D. Selman, Zachary Warren, Charlotte Warren, Alex Warren, Mikayla Warren, and Colette Warren. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by: step-son: Jeremy A. Warren; sister: Catherine Mary Berkheiser; and brothers-in-law: Christian C. Siebert and Nicholas Ruggeri. After the military service, John attended the RCA Technical Institute in Cherry Hill, NJ and started his career in Honeywell, NYC in September 1968 until his retirement. John cherished and loved life and lived it to the fullest. John will always be remembered for his storytelling as he held court and engaged family and friends with many of his stories and conversations. I will miss my best friend. One of John’s greatest adventures in his travels was that he had the opportunity to ski the Italian and Swiss Alps. He loved and valued his family and friends. John was an avid golfer and loved playing golf with his friends at the Keowee Key Golf Course. He loved tennis, fishing, and enjoyed collecting and displaying his train designs. John will always be remembered for his engaging personality, infectious laugh, warmth, loyalty, sense of humor, kindness, generosity and his love. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at a later date at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church: 170 Bountyland Rd., Seneca, SC 29672. A private burial will take place at a later date.
